Brett H

Brett has been doing public education for over 20 years and has been a leader in the BDSM community recently. He leads workshops that he wishes someone would have taught earlier in his own kink journey. He curated the Education Through Voyeurism series for at the Blood, Sweat, and Queers Party at Seattle’s Center for Sex Positive Culture from 2011 to 2015. He also co-chaired the program committee for the 2013 KinkLINCS leadership conference in Seattle, and participated in the planning of Leather Reign since 2013.

Brett likes to find the edge of most anything that interests him. He is a zealot, and has yet to find meaningful fulfillment in moderation.

Cultivating Successful Service Relationships

From the Top

Many people in our community love the idea of service, but struggle to make it work. That’s not surprising – accepting service requires a different toolset than sensation-based S/M or power-based D/S. While service can be challenging, it can also be deep, quiet, and profound. This workshop will help tops receive service gracefully and cultivate an environment for successful service. Brett will present several models for service and service relationships, and will provide specific ways you can define and nurture your own service dynamic.

This workshop assumes no previous BDSM experience and is appropriate for all genders and all orientations. Both tops and bottoms are welcome though this workshop will speak primarily from a Top perspective to Tops.

Embracing Sacrifice and Suffering

A great deal of BDSM education operates from the expectation that our sadism should be kept in service to the erotic desires of our bottoms. Sacrifice and suffering flip this script.

Brett and Tris are moved by “play” and relationships grounded in suffering past the bottom’s limits and boundaries. They cultivate D/s relationships where painful sacrifice is part of what the bottom offers the Top – Brett from the Top side, Tris from the bottom side.

In this workshop, we’ll talk about some things that are still forbidden edges, even in our community of sexual outlaws, including but not limited to:

  • Significant spiritual and emotional suffering
  • Torture, fear and blackmail that extends into people’s real lives
  • Behavior modification
  • Sacrifice
  • Humiliation and degradation

We’ll talk about what moves us, and listen to what moves you. This is an opportunity to explore the motivations and consequences of exploring these dark needs.

This workshop assumes previous BDSM experience and comfort with emotional sadism and edgier play. It is appropriate for all genders and all orientations. Both tops and bottoms are welcome, though this workshop will speak primarily from a Top perspective to Tops.

Ethical Predation

Do you want your play to feel like violation? Do you identify as prey? As predator? Do you want to play in ways that honor those identities? Do you like your play to feel more like real felonies and less like pretend? Do you want to play dark games that push against or don’t work with moment to moment consent?

We have found ways to negotiate for relationships with imbalanced power and for sadistic pleasure. Let’s talk about how to navigate the murky and dangerous waters of predation. How can you hunt in ways that honor the agency of your quarry? How can you say yes to being prey, giving up the agency that feels good, but keeping the agency you need to be whole later?

Join us for a conversation, dipping our toe into this rich topic. Depending on the group, topics might include:

  • How to navigate the edges of informed consent and ethics for predatory play
  • What we are risking to play these games?
  • Motivations
  • Evaluation of the tools we need
  • How to give and get informed consent
  • How to debrief
  • Risk mitigation
  • How to create the right environment for the suspension of disbelief
  • Others depending on the group’s interests

This workshop assumes previous BDSM experience. It is appropriate for all genders and all orientations. Both tops and bottoms are welcome though this workshop will speak primarily from a Top perspective to Tops.
